Skyline

Don't look up.

Strange lights descend on the city of Los Angeles, drawing people outside like moths to a flame where an extraterrestrial force threatens to swallow the entire human population off the face of the Earth. (Source: IMDB)

Megan's Movie Review:
This movie was just under average. I really didn't much care for it at all. Yes, it was entertaining but it ended kind of dumb. It was a mix between War of the Worlds and Independence Day. Although, those two movies are wayyy better than this one. Skyline, left you hanging at the very end and you don't know how these stupid aliens die. Has anyone ever seen Cloverfield? Well that was a stupid movie! But in that movie it left you hanging and you have no idea if the world ended or if humans won. That's exactly how it happened in this movie but it was a better story than Cloverfield. It kept me wondering how they would get out of this situation. It was alright. I actually laughed out loud at how stupid some parts were. I wasn't the only one in the theater either. I think my husband liked it more than I did but to be honest, I really didn't like it at all.

Alien lovers out there?

Through these tales, the son begins to understand his father's great feats and his great failings. (Source: IMDB)

Megan's Movie Review:
I don't know why, but I love this movie! It is so weird and unusual but there is just something about it that grabs my attention. I find it very sweet at the end when he finally understands his father and bonds with him. The story is good though and of course my favorite part of the movie is when he finds his girl. It was so sweet and romantic! Tim Burton has some unusual films yet I usually like them a lot. My husband doesn't like this movie because he thinks the dad is a big, fat liar but I loved this movie. Watch it if you haven't seen it! I dare you. Just remember it is a little strange but you can't help but love it. Maybe..

Never Been Kissed

A comedy with class.

Chicago Sun Times copy editor Josie Gellar (25), who was desperate to graduate from perfectionist copy editor to reporter, gets her chance when the goody owner orders the editor to cover the high-school scene by undercover. Josie, who was a frustrated, ridiculed nerd, gets a popular make-over from her drop-out, naturally funny brother Rob Geller. Both siblings find love and joys of youth again. But in Josie's case, it's sensitive bachelor teacher Sam Coulson, who enjoys sophisticated conversation. As the publication deadline approaches, the price of blowing their cover seems ever more daunting, yet inevitable unless she sacrifices her career. (Source: IMDB)

Starring: Drew Barrymore, David Arquette
Released: 1999

Megan's Movie Review:
This is definitely one of my favorite chick flicks ever! I know there are some dirty parts and comments in this movie that I actually just pass by and ignore, but it is also quite hilarious! I loved Drew Barrymore in this movie! She did such an awesome job acting like a nerd. If you really think about it, that has to be so hard acting that part and having a straight face. Although it is still rather weird that her teacher falls for one of his HIGH SCHOOL students, I did love the romance to this story. The end is the best part! He comes for her!! :) I find this movie pretty funny and it is under my personal favorites too.

Megan's Movie Review:
This was just an average movie, it wasn't bad nor was it anything great. I thought it would've been a little bit funnier with Ashton Kutcher as the main character. He seemed to have played more of a serious character in this movie. There were some funny parts but it wasn't hilariously entertaining. It also was rather slow to get into the story. I think they could have made it funnier and more entertaining. All the best parts were shown on the previews and that was about it.

He came. He saw. They conquered.

Tyler does seem content after he meets with lovely Amber, but Tammy is concerned about her husband when he near-hysterically claims that local creatures, including beavers, ravens, bears, fox, etc. have joined forces to sabotage his project. Megan's Movie Review:
Well this story was WAY too childish for me. We ended up turning it off and sending it back to Netflix. We probably watched about an hour of it before I couldn't handle the bad acting anymore. Once again, I'm sure children would enjoy this, but this is not my type of movie that I like. I would compare this to Diary of a Wimpy Kid but maybe even more childish than that movie. If you have children, they might find this entertaining, but I just don't have the patience to watch movies this stupid. Haha.. that sounds harsh!

Any fans of this movie?

Shutter Island (Edited)

Stars:
3 1/2 stars

Someone is missing.

It's 1954, and up-and-coming U.S. marshal Teddy Daniels is assigned to investigate the disappearance of a patient from Boston's Shutter Island Ashecliffe Hospital. He's been pushing for an assignment on the island for personal reasons, but before long he wonders whether he hasn't been brought there as part of a twisted plot by hospital doctors whose radical treatments range from unethical to illegal to downright sinister. Teddy's shrewd investigating skills soon provide a promising lead, but the hospital refuses him access to records he suspects would break the case wide open. As a hurricane cuts off communication with the mainland, more dangerous criminals "escape" in the confusion, and the puzzling, improbable clues multiply, Teddy begins to doubt everything - his memory, his partner, even his own sanity. Megan's Movie Review:
This movie was really good. I love mystery/suspenseful movies that keep you entertained and trying to figure out what the heck is going on. To be honest though, it wasn't scary for me. I wonder if it is because of the edited version.. So I kind of wish I could've seen the real version, but oh well. Leonardo DiCaprio is an amazing actor. He can play so many different roles and I just love him! This edited version was great though. It cut out all the swearing and I'm sure it cut out more, but I've never seen the original version, so I can't tell you what it exactly cut out. Haha. It does have a twist at the end which I actually had predicted. I don't want to spoil anything so I won't say anymore. Good movie though, I really liked the way it ended. "Which would be worse, to live as a monster, or to die as a good man?"

Thoughts on this thriller?!

Megan's Movie Review:
To be honest, I wanted to see this movie but I didn't really want to see it in theaters. My husband, on the other hand, wanted to see this in theaters, so we saw it the opening weekend. And to my surprise, I really liked it more than I thought I would. Will Ferrell has such a hilarious voice and he did a great job as the alien. I also couldn't picture Brad Pitt in an animation film, but it worked good. It was a funny movie!! There were two favorite parts in the movie that I loved. The "forget-me" stick (you'll have to watch the movie to understand) and when Will Ferrell says, "Back you savages!!". Soo funny! This was a really cute story and you couldn't help but fall in the love with the blue guy. I definitely recommend it and kids would enjoy this movie for sure.

The Last Song

Do you ever really forget your first heartbreak?

Seventeen-year-old Veronica 'Ronnie' Miller's life was turned upside-down when her parents divorced and her father moved from New York City to Tybee Island, Georgia. Three years later, she remains angry and alienated from her parents, especially her father ...until her mother decides it would be in everyone's best interest if she spent the summer on Tybee Island with him. Ronnie's father, a former concert pianist and teacher, is living a quiet life in the beach town, immersed in creating a work of art that will become the centerpiece of a local church. The tale that unfolds is an unforgettable story about love in its myriad forms - first love, the love between parents and children - that demonstrates, as only a Nicholas Sparks novel can, the many ways that deeply felt relationships can break our hearts ...and heal them. (Source: IMDB)

Starring: Miley Cyrus, Greg Kinnear, Liam Hemsworth
Released: 2010

Megan's Movie Review:
Surprisingly, I liked this movie. I had been told mixed reviews on this, but I actually liked it a lot more than I thought I would. One thing I was kind of worried about was that it was based on a Nicholas Sparks novel, and there can be those sex scenes in the movie. This was PG and there was nothing like that in here. I truly enjoyed it and Miley Cyrus did a pretty good job. It was very sweet and I would watch it again. Some of the parts in the movie were kind of cheesy, but.. you always get that in romance films.

Any opinions on this one?

Fall in love.* Get married. Have a baby. *Not necessarily in that order.

Zoe's a woman who has a hard time letting anyone into her life. She has a habit of pushing people away when they get close. She also wants to have a baby but because she has no man in her life decides to be artificially inseminated. Shortly after having the procedure she meets a guy named Stan whom she connects with. But she's still afraid to let him in and when she tells him about her pregnancy thinking he would bail but he sticks with her. (Source: IMDB)

Starring: Jennifer Lopez, Alex O'Loughlin
Released: 2010

Megan's Movie Review:
This movie was stupid. It was all about sex and it wasn't even funny. I thought it might be a little bit more about her being pregnant and all the awful things that come with pregnancy and her boyfriend helping her through it. But it seriously was just all about sex and I thought it was terrible. We ended up shutting the movie off and sending it back to Netflix. I don't enjoy movies like that. And the acting was also terrible. I never thought Jennifer Lopez was a great actress, but she was terrible. Alex O'Loughlin was absolutely awful too. I've never seen him before but he played a creepo in this movie and his acting sucked.

Starring: Claire Danes, Ian McKellen, Charlie Cox, Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert De Niro
Released: 2007

Megan's Movie Review:
I absolutely LOVE this movie. Some of you might disagree, but I loved the romance in this. It was so sweet and true, it made me in love with this movie. I love the fantasy side of it as well, so if you don't like fantasy, I'm guessing you probably won't enjoy this. It had some funny parts in the movie, that if you pay attention you'll understand their hidden jokes. For instance, all the sons of the dead king were named a number in Latin (I think that's the right language). Just funny stuff like that is entertaining in this movie. But I loved Tristan in this movie. I thought he was so genuine and I couldn't help but just fall in love with this movie and its romance. It is definitely one of my personal favorites.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid

How to be cool.

To Greg Heffley, middle school is the dumbest idea ever invented. It's a place rigged with hundreds of social landmines, not the least of which are morons, wedgies, swirlies, bullies, lunchtime banishment to the cafeteria floor - and a festering piece of cheese with nuclear cooties. To survive the never-ending ordeal and attain the recognition and status he feels he so richly deserves, Greg devises an endless series of can't-miss schemes, all of which, of course, go awry. And he's getting it all down on paper, via a diary - "it's NOT a diary, it's a journal!" Greg insists, preferring the less-sissyfied designation - filled with his opinions, thoughts, tales of family trials and tribulations, and (would-be) schoolyard triumphs. "One day when I'm famous," writes Greg, "I'll have better things to do than answer peoples' stupid questions all day." So was born the Wimpy Kid's diary. (Source: IMDB)

Megan's Movie Review:
Well.. Personally this is not up my ally of movies. I did not like it because it was just too "kiddish" for me. I would say this would be recommended for 8 year olds. It wasn't as funny as the previews make it look and it was just kind of dumb. But I am sure that children would enjoy it, I just didn't. Some of it was just stupid comedy that, of course, kids would enjoy and find hilarious. I also did not like the morals that were taught in the movies. It taught that you have to be cool or do something cool to be anyone or accepted at school, which is not true. Just be yourself. I didn't like how the brothers would get each other in trouble and not get caught. I felt like it didn't teach you how to be a good friend.

Starring: Jim Carrey

Megan's Movie Review:
If you like documentary's, you would enjoy this movie. My husband and I are really fascinated by the ocean and especially the coral reefs. This was a good movie, it just seemed too short. I could've watched more! It was only 40 minutes long but the shots were amazing. All the fish and sea creatures were so incredible and I love watching films like these. It was very enjoyable and children would even enjoy this because of all the cool fish and sea creatures.

Anyone else??
